Digital transformation is everywhere in society. Metrology is also affected by the digital transformation in many ways. In his paper ‘The digital transformation and novel calibration approaches’ Gertjan Kok, Data Science & Modeling Scientist at VSL Dutch Metrology Institute, discusses how new digital technologies affect the work and the role of National Metrology Institutes such as VSL.
Digital transformation is everywhere and therefore also in metrology. Not only does metrology play a role in the digitization of many processes in industry and society, metrology itself is also digitizing. That is why this year’s theme for World Metrology Day is ‘Metrology in the Digital Age’.
European legislation sets strict limits on nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PN) emitted from vehicle exhaust, as both are a major source of air pollution and are hazardous to human health. Emission tests with real car journeys have recently been introduced in the EU to provide a more realistic picture of these vehicle emissions.
We are very proud to be the only national metrology institute in Europe with this type of declaration, to deliver value to companies operating in both Europe and the USA.
In March 2023, National Metrology Institute VSL will open the doors of its brand new European Center for Flow Measurement on the Rotterdam Maasvlakte.
The scientific journal Nature has published the results of the SuperGPS project, a collaboration between VSL, VU Amsterdam and TU Delft.
VSL is organising an international Interlaboratory Comparison (ILC) for the calibration of a GOhm Electrometer/High Resistance Meter. Registration is now open for participants.
The Opening Event of VSL’s European Centre for Flow Measurement (ECFM) is a multi-day event including a Measurement-Workshop, that will take place on March 28th , 29th and 30th , 2023 in The Netherlands. We cordially invite you to attend.
Global warming is one of the greatest current risks to humanity. As outlined in the Paris Agreement, and confirmed in the IPCC AR6 WG1 Climate Report released last August 2021, there is an urgent need for action tackling climate change, by reducing greenhouse gases emissions such as methane and carbon dioxide.
