Carbon-neutral solutions for transport and energy are a core element of the Green Deal, which requires investments in environmentally friendly green or blue hydrogen. Hydrogen offers the prospect of storing electrical energy obtained in a green manner in the natural gas network. The market for hydrogen is growing, for both the gas phase and the liquid phase. The need for a metrological infrastructure for fiscal metering of hydrogen transfer has therefore become more compelling.<br \/>\nIn this project, traceability to the SI system for quantity measurement of hydrogen is developed, for both the gas phase and the liquid phase. In addition, the applicability of different flowmeter types for metering hydrogen is being investigated. Primary standards for the calibration of gaseous hydrogen sonic nozzles are being developed. Traceability to the liquid phase is achieved in three completely independent ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our role<br \/>\n<\/strong>VSL leads the work package that has the following two objectives:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Establish traceability for measurements on liquid hydrogen streams,<\/li>\n<li>Developing primary standards for the calibration of sonic nozzles that subsequently provide traceability for measurements of gaseous hydrogen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To this end, VSL collaborates in this work package with ten sister\/research institutes and industrial parties located in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>VSL has so far been able to estimate the expected measurement uncertainty when measuring liquid hydrogen by means of modeling and has succeeded in calibrating liquid hydrogen flow
