First Proficiency Test for Mercury on Sorbent Tubes Now Open for Registration<\/h1>\n

Why Monitor Mercury?<\/h2>\n

Mercury is ubiquitously present in the atmosphere, making the monitoring of atmospheric and emission-source Hg concentrations a global necessity. In recent years, industries have been required to implement suitable monitoring equipment and report their emissions to relevant authorities. Accurate and reliable measurements are only possible with proper calibration of monitoring equipment.<\/p>\n

Ensuring Reliable Measurements<\/h2>\n

Accurate results depend on properly calibrated measurement equipment. Over the past decade, VSL has invested in developing primary reference materials and calibration methods for gaseous mercury concentrations, all traceable to the International System of Units (SI). Comparisons between VSL\u2019s primary gas standards and mercury calibration methods maintained at other institutes have been performed using sorbent traps. These intercomparisons have proven essential for establishing metrological traceability to SI units.<\/p>\n

About the Proficiency Test<\/h2>\n

This new proficiency test offers laboratories and industrial sites the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in measuring mercury concentrations, benchmark their performance, and ensure compliance with international standards.
