There is a vacancy for the position in the Flow gas group in Delft

Scientist / developer [32-40 hours per week]

At VSL, we are constantly improving the ways in which we perform measurements as accurately as possible. We do this through research projects in collaboration with other measurement institutes, universities and industrial partners.

As a scientist / developer you will work on various projects aimed at the development of measurement standards, methods and software. You will make an important contribution to the current research programs and to improving existing measurement setups. In this way, you will actively contribute to the measurement of energy flows, relevant for the energy transition.

The ideal candidate

  • You have graduated in mechanical engineering or technical physics from university or have a related technical education.
  • You are familiar with physical measurement techniques and are able to help further develop these into a ready-to-use measurement setup.
  • It is a benefit if you can prove your practical skills by your hobbies (like fixing motorbikes or old cars)
  • You combine practical skills with analytical insight.
  • You have experience with data acquisition and data processing.
  • You are convincing, you can lead a project, you are inspiring and energetic.
  • You have good speaking and writing skills in the Dutch and English language.

About VSL
VSL is part of First Dutch Innovations and has about a hundred passionate employees. On behalf of the Dutch Government, we maintain and develop the national measurement standards. We make sure that these continue to be among the best in the world and internationally accepted. We provide calibrations, special projects, reference materials, interlaboratory comparisons and training modules. As the national metrology institute (NMI) we provide direct traceability to international measurement standards for industry, laboratories, and other companies. In this position we are an important link in the reliability, quality and innovative power of products and services by these third parties and Dutch society.

A typical working day/week
You will have a varied job. Part of your time you will spend in the laboratory where you calibrate meters and improve measurement methods for VSL and customers. You process the measurement results into calibration certificates and discuss the results with your colleagues. Another part of the time you will spend calibrating at customer locations, both in and out of Europe, for some weeks per year. And a part of your time you will spend on research of new measurement techniques together with the scientists in the team.
