VSL is focusing on developing the test & calibration infrastructure for LNG flowmeters. We do this because we strongly believe that flow metering will become the preferred method in LNG custody transfer to measure the transferred volume or mass. Currently there exists no facility anywhere in the world to calibrate LNG flow meters under real conditions with LNG. VSL is thereby following a three step approach: the first step is the creation of a primary flow standard. The second step is the creation of a system/method to scale up to higher flow rates. The third and final step is to realize a full scale industrial calibration facility. The facility will also include a test and calibration bench for LNG composition measurement systems.
Research
VSL is leading the European metrological research activities as coordinator of the “Metrology for LNG” project.
Test & calibration services
Our research effort will lead to facilities in the nearby future to certify LNG measurement equipment. For more information, please contact us. Although real LNG calibration facilities are not existing at this very moment, neither at VSL nor anywhere else, we are offering for example water calibration services. The results can be extrapolated to the application of LNG although at the expense of an increase in the measurement uncertainty.
